I came across this beautiful Yellow Sapphire gem during work and it just got me right there in a glimpse. This captivating beauty holds many untold stories from the gem mines of Ceylon to the hands of its future partner blessing with the innate powers of nature.
In Vedic traditions and in the realm of astrology & spirituality, this marvelous gem is considered to be associated with the planet Jupiter. Be it the gem color or the epics told by the ancient texts, Yellow Sapphire symbolizes wisdom, prosperity and it is believed to bring harmony to unstable relationships. But, I shall not get into that… There are many things on that already
What got me more about this gem is the information and myths floating in the market. One of the most common question I get is how to identify which gem to pick. And, my heart went out when a dear person sent me a picture of a opaque white stone that was claimed to be a Yellow Sapphire (that it was not anyhow). And, to the amazement that person is a reporter in a reputed newspaper.
Even after that much awareness, still there is a dire need of the correct information about gemstones. I was shocked to see a video on the YouTube where a reputed gentleman from New Delhi, who started his video saying ‘Today, I am going to show you how to identify the real Pukhraj’ and thereafter ends up the video showcasing junk stones with a certificate that says Natural and Untreated but are in no way near to a gemstone. What to say about Jyotish Gemstone.
To shed a light on how to identify whether a Yellow Sapphire would be effective astrologically, here are 3 pointers:
1. Gem should be Natural and there must be No Treatment at all (generally heat treatment is done to Yellow Sapphire, and one should avoid a heat treated Yellow Sapphire for astrological purpose)
2. Clarity should be exceptional, preferably above 90%
3. The gem should be free from flaws as listed in sacred texts. Here are some of the major flaws that are to be avoided from a Yellow Sapphire:
– Avoid a black dot inclusion inside the gem
– Avoid a Yellow Sapphire that has a color shade difference within the gem. The color should be evenly distributed throughout the gem.
– Avoid spider web like inclusions in the gem.
If the above 3 parameters are met in a Yellow Sapphire, it’s a Gemstone.
One more question that frequently asked is about the weight for the gem. And, the most common recommendation that I have seen people coming with are 5.25 ratti or 7.25 ratti (Sawa Panch or Sawa Saat Ratti).
This is a total waste of human intelligence and the progress of science through the passage of time. First and formost, ratti is nothing but a weight based on the nominal weight of a seed (Any search engine on internet can tell you about ratti in much better context).
The correct measurement of any gemstone (including Diamond..Yes Diamond is also a gemstone) is in carats and cents.
1 carat = 0.2 gm,
1 cents = 0.002 gm.
For Yellow Sapphire the carat weight that one could begin with is 2 carats or more. Exact weight recommendation is done on the basis of planetary positions in one’s birth chart.
Above are the parameters that should set you on the right path for saving yourself from buying a junk and loosing your hard earned money to a dubious dealer and later on regretting your decision.
With the above tailored information collected from authentic sources you would be all set to make an informed approach towards buying a Yellow Sapphire Gemstone.
